slightly faded through the years

people, faces timeless.
Revealing, yet concealing
speaking through silence,
but are they heard correctly?
We may never know.

As we seek to understand,
to discern similarities,
to explain
an expression, a smile, a raised eyebrow
preserved, visible for eternity,
